Genital Acne

The male ego centers on the sexual dominance and the ability to sexually gratify a female. Anything that may look to him unnatural on, near or around the genital can be a source of immense botheration, both physical and psychological. Information available to a common man on human physiology is so little that he tends to lose his sleep over physical transformations that are natural or not very serious. The fear of impotence is active in every man. Small pimply lesions that look similar to acne can give any man a big scare notwithstanding the fact that these are generally harmless.

There is much ado about nothing. There is no disease on earth that can be called genital acne. If genital acne is the name of a fictitious disease, then what do we do with the fact that many of us have pimply lesions randomly scattered around the genital? Usually occurring in the V shaped area around the groin, these bumps may even spread to legs and hips.

It might be difficult for you to differentiate between the lesions you have around the genital and the acne with which you are already aware of. The acne like lesion around your genital is not genital acne. It is technically called 'hidradentis suppurativa'. What? Relax! It is not going to roast you and eat you up. There is a sweat gland called ´apocrine' which is present inside the skin on and around the outside genitals. When the pores of these sweat glands get blocked, they become swollen, inflamed and infected. There is also a possibility of infection in the skin pores in the groin region. This is technically called 'folliculitis'. Either of the two can cause acne like bumps.

It is natural that you are. There is much that you need to know about your body than what you see of yourself in the mirror. Whatever bumps you have on or around your genitals may not be the two diseases that we have already talked about and you have become familiar with. It is better to check with a doctor in any case. Sexually active people always run the risk of being exposed to sexually transmitted diseases. There is always a possibility that herpes and other sexually transmitted infections can be mistaken for apocrine blockage. Genital warts and condyloma too look very much like acne and can be easily mistaken with the latter. If you haven\'t experienced sexual intercourse then these painless bumps on or around your scrotum and penis might just be normal. It is however advisable to check up with an urologist
